Uses of Asbestos

The heat-resisting quality of asbestos is ideal for insulation buildings and homes. Asbestos products that have been manufactured for commercial use include: roof cements and coatings; cement sheets, siding and shingles for homes; brake linings for motor vehicles.

Though its carcinogenic nature to cause mesothelioma or lung cancer, various nations in the world have implemented restrictions and precautions on its use in manufacturing and building construction.

What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a threadlike mineral fiber. Which in recent decades have become a cause for lung cancer otherwise known as mesothelioma. This is due to the increasing use of asbestos in heat insulation in building construction until its potential health hazard was discovered in the early 1900's.

Sources of asbestos
Asbestos is usually mined from metamorphic rock. 2.3 million metric tons of asbestos are mined throughout the world annually. Russia produces one third of the world's asbestos. While a quarter is produced by Canada, followed by China, Brazil and Zimbabwe.
